Poetry Workshop
What’s in a name? How to choose the right title for our poem
Saturday 14th November 2026

Titles should inform and invite, they should beguile and explain, they should reflect the subject but not let it shine too brightly. In short, a title should do all these things, but how do we choose one that does?
In this workshop we shall look at examples of titles that may or may not fulfil these criteria and discuss our own practice.
Workshop Structure
2 pm – 2.15 pm – introductions & welcome
2.15 pm – 2.45 pm – discussion with example poems
2.45 pm – 3.15 pm – read around of delegates’ poems (these can be your own poems, or examples from your favourite poets)
3.15 pm – 3.30 pm – review & close
This workshop is open to all writers, not just poets, and I’d love for you to join me.
Numbers are limited, however, to 12 on a first come, first served basis, so please book early if you can. The event is FREE and open to members primarily, but places may be offered to non-members if space allows and there will be a waiting list if more than 12 bookings are received. There will be a charge of £10 for non-members.
To reserve a place, please email claire@clairedyer.com by Monday 9th November 2026
Once your place is confirmed, I will send you the Zoom link and delegate pack.
